Wardrobe Staple: White Button Down

The classic white button is a very essential yet simple staple. This versatile top can be worn for any occasion and we're seeing leveraged in making outfits now more than ever. The white button down used to be a piece that was reserved for more classic, polished outfits only...but not anymore. Keep reading for our Prept tips on this piece, our top picks, and how to get personal styling advice catered to you and your unique needs.

Tip #1: You cannot go wrong with a classic button down + denim combo

The style we see most often when styling a white button down is with jeans. This outfit is a classic combo that you really cannot go wrong with. Pair a fitted button down with straight leg, boyfriend, wide leg denim for a smart casual, polished, balanced look. Pair a looser or boyfriend style button down with more fitted denim like the skinny jean, straight leg style, bootcut, or slightly cropped options for a more casual yet balanced look.

In terms of the denim wash, really any wash of denim will work with this look. A lighter wash will give off a cool, casual feel with less contrast in your look where a darker blue or black will give a more polished, elevated feel with the most contrast.

For shoes we love a good white sneaker to compliment the white button down or a fun textured loafer. Velvet is a great option if shopping for a textured shoe. If you want to achieve a professional look, add a diamond drop earring for an added flare. Last but not least, don't forget to accentuate your waist with this piece play with a tie, french tuck, or full tuck!

Tip #2: Try a legging + blouse moment

If you're not feeling denim, we promise it's still acceptable and stylish to pair with leggings. This honestly adds a little edge for a cool look - especially if you opt for nicer leather/faux leather leggings.

Go for no tuck. Thats right, we are loving seeing the white button down take on all forms even the oversized look we often see with graphic tees. Pair an oversized white button down with faux leather leggings, some boots/pumps, and a gold hoop for a night out or any holiday occasion. Add a clutch or bag with a pop of color as well.

Tip #3: Layer over the button down

Layers over a button down can be a great option for warmth and to mix up your look. Play with a sweater vest or cardigan for more of a preppy look. Go for a blazer for a more dressed up smart casual look.

Tip #4: Try a button down as outerwear

The white button down doesn't have to be layered over, instead make it the layer. When wearing the white button up on the outside, you'll want to pair with fitted pieces underneath and on the bottom for a balanced look. For the top try a cami, bodysuit, or tank (cropped or fitted tucked in).

Add a street style sneaker for a cute and casual appeal. Another popular option is a button up over an athletic onesie or biker short / legging athleisure set for a cool on-the-go look.

You can even go for a monochromatic moment with the white blouse + shades of white underneath (white denim, white sneakers, cream tank, etc.).
