We previously shared tips to stay autumn chic as you start to build your own fall capsule wardrobe. In this post we are sharing our full fall/winter capsule wardrobe lineup to consider as you refresh and get your wardrobe ready for the season.
Quick background on the capsule wardrobe
The capsule wardrobe concept has been around for some time, which makes sense as it's all about finding timeless, classic pieces that can stand the test of time. At Prept, we define the capsule wardrobe as a "mini wardrobe" or limited number of individual pieces that can serve as your key basics, and the foundation upon which you can build a cohesive wardrobe that reflects your personal style.
A capsule wardrobe is made up of key pieces (i.e. the white tee) across categories (i.e. tops, bottoms, dresses). And these are not just any pieces, they should be pieces that:
are timeless, classic, stylish, “staple” pieces, not trendier items that will go out of style
are high-quality enabling them to be worn many times without needing to be replaced
you enjoy wearing, align to your personal style, and feel confident in
are in coordinating colors maximizing versatility and ability to mix and match with one another to create many outfits
can be worn across seasons
If you are totally new to the capsule wardrobe concept, highly recommend starting here to learn more about what a capsule wardrobe is, what is in one, why we love it, etc.!

Key things to consider
You do not need to have everything in this capsule collection, the goal is to use this as a guide and going in perspective on all the ideal "basics" you should consider then tailor and customize it to your personal style and preferences.
Use this guide and compare it to your current wardrobe to identify where you have gaps in your wardrobe that you might want to fill over time. On this flip side, it can reveal where you have concentrations in your wardrobe and might want to invest in other areas.
Just like personal style, building a capsule wardrobe is a process! You don't need to, nor do we recommend going all in on building your capsule all at once. Build it over time. Start with the pieces that speak to you on the page and try them out. See which pieces you like and enjoy wearing. Then think about additional pieces you leverage to make outfits with these pieces. For example, if you love the little black dress, you can start there then try different coordinating outerwear and shoes.
For the areas that we mention elevated versus casual, consider nicer styles, longer lengths, and nicer fabrics (silk, cashmere, wool, satin, etc.). This will enable you have options for different occasions and dress codes. Still have any eye to choosing versatile pieces you'll wear more than once!
Coordinating colors and patterns are key. You'll notice we lean primarily neutrals in the guide with a couple pops of pattern. Ideally you have 1-2 neutral shades and 2-3 patterns that ground your wardrobe to make it cohesive and maximize your ability to make many outfits. Here are 12 timeless outfits you can make with capsule pieces!
